got questions?
Bacteriostatic water, commonly shortened to bac water, is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The preservative is what lets one vial be entered more than once instead of being thrown away after a single draw. We stock it in 3 ml, 10 ml and 30 ml, and every order ships from inside the European Union.
Buy bacteriostatic water in 3 ml, 10 ml and 30 ml
Three sizes, all the same product: sterile, non-pyrogenic, deionised water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol at 9 mg per millilitre. Multi-packs bring the per-vial price down, and orders over €99 ship free.
Which size do I need?
- 3 ml suits a single reconstitution, or a first order if you want to check the product before committing to a larger vial.
- 10 ml is the European standard and the size most people should buy. It is the only format stocked consistently across European markets, and it matches the volume most people get through inside the 28 days that follow first puncture.
- 30 ml is a US format that Europe barely stocks. It makes sense for high-volume or multi-vial use, and it is the cheapest per millilitre by a wide margin, but only if you will actually use it before the vial has to be discarded.
Who buys it, and why
Our customers are buying a diluent: something to return a freeze-dried powder to liquid form, where the vial will be drawn from repeatedly over the following weeks rather than emptied in one go. That covers research use, aesthetic and cosmetic practice, and any multi-dose vial where an unpreserved ampoule would mean throwing away most of what you paid for.
What it is not: a treatment. Bac water has no pharmacological action, it is never given on its own, and it is not suitable for infants or for intrathecal, epidural or ophthalmic preparations. Where a manufacturer specifies a particular solvent, that instruction is the one that applies.
If you are still deciding whether this is the right product, our guide to what bacteriostatic water is covers the composition, every use case in detail, and how it differs from sterile water and from the water for injections a pharmacy will offer you.
Why buy from inside the EU
Most bacteriostatic water offered to European buyers ships from outside the EU customs union. That is the single biggest practical difference between suppliers, and it is invisible until the parcel is already in transit.
No customs, no import VAT, no seizure risk
A parcel crossing into the EU carries import VAT charged on arrival, a customs handling fee from the carrier, and a delay of anywhere from days to weeks. It can also be stopped. A parcel that starts inside the customs union carries none of that: the price you see is the price you pay, and the parcel moves as a domestic or intra-EU shipment.
Our stock sits in a European warehouse and ships to European addresses. Nothing crosses a customs border to reach you.
What European buyers currently pay
We surveyed live retail listings across ten European markets. For the 10 ml format, the standard size, the median price is €10.24, with most of the market between €9.90 and €10.81.
| Market | Typical 10 ml price |
|---|---|
| Ireland | €10.81 |
| Germany | €10.00 |
| Spain | €9.90 |
| Poland | €9.00 |
| Norway | about €27.00 |
| European median | €10.24 |
Norway is the outlier, and it illustrates the point above. A market outside the EU customs union, with thin supply and friction on every parcel, pays roughly two and a half times the European norm for the same product.
Shipping across Europe
Shipping is available to all 27 EU member states:
- Standard Tracked: €9.90
- Express: €24.90
- Free Standard shipping on orders of €99 or more
Orders are tracked from dispatch. Because stock ships from inside the EU, there is nothing to pay on arrival and no customs paperwork to complete.
Ordering, dispatch and returns
Orders placed before the daily cut-off are picked and dispatched the same working day. You get a tracking number as soon as the parcel leaves the warehouse, and delivery within the EU typically runs two to five working days depending on destination.
Every vial is supplied sealed, batch-marked and within date. If a parcel arrives damaged, or a vial arrives with a compromised stopper, tell us and we will replace it. Unopened vials can be returned within 14 days under the standard EU right of withdrawal.
Payment is taken in euros. Nothing is charged on delivery.
Frequently asked questions
How long does bac water last once opened?
Standard guidance is 28 days from first puncture. Write the date on the vial when you first enter it, because that is the date the clock runs from. Unopened vials keep to their printed expiry.
Does it need refrigerating?
No. Store unopened vials at controlled room temperature, out of direct light, and do not freeze them. Anything you reconstitute follows its own storage rules, which are usually stricter.
Can I just use what my pharmacy sells?
Usually not. A European pharmacy will normally offer water for injections, which has no preservative and is meant to be opened, used and discarded. It will not survive repeat withdrawal. This is the most common buying mistake in Europe, and we cover it in detail here.
Will I be charged customs or import VAT?
No, for deliveries within the EU. Stock ships from inside the customs union, so there is no import step and nothing to pay on delivery.
Which size should I order?
10 ml for most people. Take 3 ml if you only need a single reconstitution, and 30 ml only if you are confident of using it within 28 days of opening.
